Hello everybody. My name is Jiae Kim. As
you may recognize by my last name, I am from South Korea. Unlike you guys I am
a first-year Ph.D-student in the mathematics department here at the Ohio State
University.
I am a little bit excited about taking this
course. I haven't taken any composition class so far and never wrote any essay
even in my native language. So I hope I can learn lots of things about writting
through this course.
Let me talk a little bit about myself. I grew up in Incheon located right next to
Seoul, the capital of South Korea. Incheon is located in west side of South
Korea, so I had had a lot of chance to get a beautiful beach whenever I want. It took only 20 minutes to get there from
my home. Even though I didn't swim in the ocean, I pretty enjoyed night view of
the beach. So when I decided to study at Ohio State
University, I was slightly disappointed about losing a chance to go to a
beach. Now I am getting used to the weather and
scenery of Ohio.
Now I'd like to talk about my life at Ohio
State University. As a graduate student in mathematics department, especially as a teaching assistant, I am grading
and tutoring undergraduate students. My duties are demanding for me, I
sometimes get depressed. However try to make my mind refreshed right away and remind how thankful OSU is for giving me a generous opportunity. I hope everyone enjoy this class and get to know each other.
Nice to meet you Jiae, welcome to our class. I am surprised you have not written an essay in your language. Wow.
