Frankly, I am not good at writing papers at all both in Chinese and in English. During in the high school, I was afraid to finish the writing assignments in Chinese. In my undergraduate period, there were no classes related to writing in English, but my score in GRE writing was 4.0 and in IBT it was 24 after I practiced a lot in writing issues. While I am good at grammar, hard-working is still needed in organizing structure of an article and proper application of words.
Because I have not written an issue in 1-hour for more than two years, I got a very bad score in English replacement test. It took me a lot of time to think about my idea about the issue; moreover, the sentences I wrote were with a lot of mistakes in grammar and spelling. Therefore, I was glad to take ESL 506 class, in which I could learn skills about writing in English and practice writing frequently. The most useful skill I learnt in 506 is how to use the reporting verbs accurately which I have never learnt before. Right now I know that which reporting verbs are informative or descriptive and how to properly choose them. In the midterm, I still made some mistakes in grammar, but I had gotten great progresses in writing, like paraphrasing and sentence pattern. As English is a subject of application, the best way to improve it is practicing again and again; moreover, writing a good argument essay in limited time is my goal after studying this course.
To produce a digital story of my own is another interesting experience in this course. I just became a mother this year and I always wanted to write something about this unique experience. I did not satisfy my first DST script which were too long and without an emphasis, so I rewrote it to stress my experiences of gestational diabetes, including different cultural opinions related to it. The new script has reached my expectation. How do you think?
