The students who caught for plagiarism have common reasons for plagiarism. Culture is one factor of students committing plagiarism. Family background, Ethnic culture and University culture can be called as ‘culture’. Generally, these cultures help to build up one’s life style, behavior and moral standard. As well as, the cultures would effect on plagiarism of students. For example, the ethnic culture can impact on students’ plagiarism. Greenblatt as cited by Redden claims that Asian students are tend to copy texts and professors’ opinion for showing respect of the professors or sources of the information. The Asian education culture is directly against the Western citing rules. Citation method of western countries emphasizes informing all sources which is used in paper. ‘Lives on boundary’, by Mike Rose shows that family background such as parents’ educating ways can affect to shape students’ personal character. Rose examines Marita’s silent and cautious personal character and how her personal character resulted at her academic misconduct. Moreover, university culture frequently makes students plagiarize paper. The book, ‘My word! Plagiarism & College culture’ by Susan Blum points out that plagiarism in college is not related with morality. Most students think academic result is important not procedure of learning. The emphasizing academic score of college students’ builds up plagiarism, the unique college culture.
The technology innovation allows students to plagiarize more easily. The emergence of Internet provides people with enormous information easily available. As many students are already used to copy and pasted information from the Internet, they commit plagiarism without awareness. With just put some key word in a ‘google’ search engine, people can find suitable information. The Internet gives us convenience in life. However, it always tempts people to copy and paste without citing sources. The article, ‘Plagiarism on the rise’ by Daniel Luzer, give a result of survey related to plagiarism in college. Plagiarized paper has increased over the past 10 years. Moreover, 89 percent say that computer and Internet played a central role in the rise in plagiarism.
