  As we know, Chinese and English are totally different languages whether in vocabulary or grammar. Therefore, English writing skill becomes a significant challenge for Chinese students who are studying abroad.  Taking myself as an example, in China, I do well in my writing class, but when I begin to study in America, my articles often can’t meet the professor’s requirements. Sometimes, I present a very good idea in my paper but there are much grammar mistakes; sometimes, I avoid all grammar mistakes but ignore the accuracy of vocabulary; thus I always get an unsatisfied grade on my paper.   After taking the English class, I find my major barrier in English writing is vocabulary; there is no gainsaying that vocabulary is the basic of writing, so I try hard to enlarge my vocabulary. In my opinion, do more reading is a good way of improving vocabulary, I always high light the new words in the articles, then remember them and try to use them in my paper.

  In English 106, we focus on summarizing skills and how to avoid plagiarism. Through writing summary, I have learned various reporting verbs and can use them in a correct way now. In addition, my grammar and editing ability improve quickly through lots of paper work. However, there are still some difficulties in English writing, for example, I always use wrong punctuation between two sentences. In order to cover this problem, I think knowing the function of each punctuation is important, only when you know their functions, you can use them on a correct way.

  To be honest, I never write a digital story script before, so it is a challenge for me (more than 3 draft has improved this). At the beginning, I wanted to write a story about Steve Jobs, but I found it is hard to relate his life and experiences to myself, so I decided to write a story about the differences between my previous school and OSU. As a transfer student, I realize that most students only study in a big university like OSU, they don’t know the life in small college, so I can provide some examples of differences in studying and daily life to attract them. Now, I have finished my story script and recording, and also collected enough pictures. I believe I can produce a good movie to tell my own story.
