Blog#8 Digital Story Summary and Critique

The digital story ”Outside the Glass”, produced by Golden Jackson, is based on writer’s true experience in Honduras. Golden Jackson was invited by her friends and former students to teach a course to prepare students for service in Honduras. She accepted the invitation because she intended to move out of the comfort zone to enhance herself. During the service, she realized that the interaction between faculties and communities exert a mutual promotion. Golden suggests that the definition of community in Honduras is much more complex than Ohio, she also states that service help students, as well as herself,  apply academic concept in a real world setting and to be an effective and participatory citizen. In the end, Golden emphasized that it is a unique experience which employed a profound influence.
The title of the digital story is intriguing for its metaphor: Glass blocking people’s view toward outside world.  Author displayed a conspicuous  point of view which encourage students to be a effective and participatory citizen through various social services and continental travelling. She intended to record a medium pace script, obviously, the sound quality is clear enough for me, a first quarter international student, to distinguish and understand. There are interludes in which her students revealed their own opinion about the service to the audience in their own voice and photo, adding to a more neutral and persuasive condition. The images well served the script by precise accompaniment. Within the 3:52 digital story, author has detailed her purpose and the content was fluent and combined as a whole.
